Few days ago we talked about the ISBN code on the books and today we would like to show you several bar codes to use in managing our library, and the process to read it with the code scanner. We can find different types of barcodes. Among others:
In one dimension:
- EAN, auf ISBN-Code verwendet
- Code 39
- Code 93
- Codabar
- Code PDF 417
- Datamatrix
- QR
Bar codes are read when you move the reader and an infrared light or laser illuminates the printed bar code. The black bar code absorb light and white spaces reflect it back to the scanner. The scanner converts the reflected light it receives into an electrical signal transmitted to the terminal or computer via a binary code.
The advantages have to do mainly with the comfort, speed and efficiency on the label. They are printed at low cost, it is very difficult to be mistaken, they capture data quickly and so registration is automated. With bar codes sorting the books, managing and organizing them in libraries is much simpler.
With libreja you can print labels on your own (both labels and barcode labels to the back of the copies) to the design and appearance (e.g. with individual call numbers) you want. We also distribute both the barcode reader and labels, so that we can apply and have the labels printed exactly as you wish or even blank labels to print yourself. Printed labels are usually consecutively numbered in large series.
